On 28th of September 2024 the world marked rabies day and Ghana as part of the celebration host its celebration in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District particularly Asuofua.
In the event were the Regional Veterinary Officer, Ms. Mabel Abudu, Regional Information Officer, Nana Akrasi Sarpong, Hon. Francis Bobie-Ansah, Presiding Member for Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, District Coordinating Director, Mr S.M Abdul Rahman (also representing the DCE) District Director of Education, Mr Frank Duah Boateng, District Director of Health, Mr Eric Sarpong, District Director of Agriculture, Ms Grace Achiaa, Heads of various departments and unit of the Assembly, staff of the veterinary and agric officers, representatives from USAID, FAO, WHO, NADMO, ISD, Nananom, and invited as well as uninvited guests.

Representatives and dignitaries present had a common message to the world and nation, that rabies is 100% preventable with right mechanisms in place.
They urged all stakeholders to collaborate and fight against the ‘deadly virus’.
Speaking on behalf of DCE, Mr Abdul Rahman expressed the readiness of the Assembly towards preventing the ‘killable’ virus. He was optimistic that all stakeholders would rally behind the Assembly into realizing it’s objective, mission and vision including rabies achieved.
Ms. Abudu, R.V.O. urged stakeholders particularly pet owners to be more ‘responsible’ in the care of their pets. She cautioned any irresponsibility made could make a person lose his or her life and as well cost the nation.

Chairperson and Queen mother for Asoufua Traditional Council, Nana Banie Ahenkan II, pleaded with government to bring back the ‘free vaccination’ of pets which for decades now is nonoperational.
She cautioned all pet owners to adhere to all protocols demonstrated in the event. Take into consideration education made on all platforms to achieve the 2030 goal.
Pet owners present and all other persons who had free rabies vaccination for their dogs praised the government, and entirely for the event.
